小说以亚特兰大以及附近的一个种植园为故事场景，刻画了那个时代的许多南方人的形象，小说主人公斯嘉丽、瑞德、艾希礼、梅兰妮等人是其中的典型代表。通过对斯嘉丽与白瑞德的爱情纠缠为主线，成功再现了林肯时期的南北战争以及美国南方地区的社会生活。

1. 这整句都是某人说的话，是一连串的并列Im tired of ...即Im tired of ... Im tired of ... Im tired of ..., and Im tired of ...说明厌烦之极。
2. be tired of：对……感到厌烦；烦透了；腻了。如华尔街日报这句：
He said he was tired of the bickering and tension, the lack of communication, how they never did anything together anymore.
