纽约时报原文：Everyone knows conventional wisdom about metabolism: People put pounds on year after year from their 20s onward because their metabolisms slow down, especially around middle age. Women have slower metabolisms than men. That’s why they have a harder time controlling their weight. Menopause only makes things worse, slowing women’s metabolisms even more. All wrong.

1. Metabolism：美 [məˈtæbəlɪzəm] 新陈代谢，如六级真题：That slows the plants metabolism and protects its dried-out tissues. 这减缓了植物的新陈代谢并保护其干枯的组织。
2. 同义表达：put pounds on体重增加，同义表达是put on weight，gain weight。
3. from加年龄on/onward：从几岁起。

conventional wisdom相关的常见写作句型还有...defy conventional wisdom that sth would mean a boon for人们总觉得……会对……有利，……颠覆了这种传统观点。
比如我们要写疫情对快递服务的影响，我们就可以借鉴纽约时报上这句：
The crisis has defied conventional wisdom that the epidemic would mean a boon for delivery services.
